2018 MLK Music City Roundball Classic

We are excited to be hosted this year by Donelson Christian Academy located at 300 Danyacrest Drive, Nashville, Tennessee 37214.

Financial Literacy In Metro Schools:

We are pleased to announce the inaugural Music City Classic High School Financial Literacy Program was a huge success. Our first lecture series was hosted by Board Member Herman A. Hicks in the Fall of 2016. We are on schedule to continue our program at even more high schools and some elementary schools this fall and spring.

Financial Literacy At The Classic:

The Music City Classic Financial Literacy Lecture Series is back at the MLK Roundball Classic for 2018. This year our topics for Saturday, January 13, 2018, will be financial literacy, which will include soft skill employment training sessions, and anger management skills training.

Our board members, Herman Hicks, Vice President, Private Client Services at First Tennessee Bank, will again host our series on financial literacy and soft skills employment training and Shan Foster, Former NBA and Vanderbilt basketball star, and currently a Director at AMEND, an innovative primary prevention initiative dedicated to ending violence against women and girls in our community, will discuss anger management techniques discussing skills to use to control anger and other emotions that cause domestic violence to help stop domestic violence.

On Sunday, January 14, 2018, Judge Sheila Callaway, a Davidson County Juvenile Court Judge, educates athletes about choices and consequences. We conclude the educational aspect of the MLK weekend with our service tribute to MLK by having the athletes walk in the MLK day march on Monday, January 15, 2018. Thus the activities at the Classic over MLK weekend are designed to provide more than just a competitive athletic opportunity. They are designed to also educate and inform participants in a positive, nurturing environment.
